What I Have Worked on the Last Eight Years
Some citizens have asked what I have done for the city during my last two terms. This is a legitimate question, as a lot of what the council does is behind the scenes. Below is a list of some of the highlights from my time on the council:
* Directed city staff to allocate more resources for road maintenance and avoid chip seal when possible
* Did not raise taxes and voted to increase rainy day reserves to 20% of the city’s annual budget
* Voted against large vacation rentals on the hill facing the Jacob Hamblin home
* Secured $158,000 County tourism funding for the upcoming Santa Clara BMX track
* Brokered a compromise between citizens with solar power and the city
* At the request of citizens, directed city staff to paint "STOP" before the four way stop on Crestview and Red Mountain to increase children's safety
* At the request of students, directed city staff to replace curbs near Santa Clara Elementary to make them wheel chair accessible
* Voted against apartments behind Lamy's restaurant
* Helped citizens on Jacob Drive to alter the west parking lot of Gubler Park so it didn't become a through street
* Supported several park improvements
* Currently coordinating the construction of the BMX track
* Attended almost every city council meeting in four years
* Attended every available training for city council members to ensure I was serving the citizens to the best of my ability
* Served as liason to the Power Department and attended many trainings
* Led the committee to create the city's social media pages
* Gave guidance to city staff on several technology issues such as new microphones for the council chambers and banquet room
* Programmed the Glockenspiel on top of City Hall
* Supported Shakespeare in the Park
* Served as chair of the Southwest Mosquito Abatement District and member of the Community Education Channel Board
* Served on the Chapel Street Bridge design committee
* Represented Santa Clara at a meeting held by the Dixie Republican Forum
* Made improvements to city ordinances to make them more understandable
* With very few large parcels still available for development in the city, encouraged city staff to plan for future budgets without growth
* Caught an error in a new city ordinance that could have cost the city tens of thousands of dollars
* Supported the County Commission's plans to build a shooting range in the South Hills to increase safety for hikers and cyclists
* Consistently solicited input from citizens before making decisions
